Fistula Angioplasty
Fistula Angioplasty is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat narrowing (stenosis) in arteriovenous (AV) fistulas used for hemodialysis. It helps restore optimal blood flow, extending the life and function of the fistula without the need for surgical revision.
Indications for Fistula Angioplasty
- Decreased dialysis efficiency due to poor flow
- Difficulty in cannulating the fistula
- Swelling of the arm or hand near the fistula
- Prolonged bleeding after dialysis needle removal
- Abnormal bruit or thrill on clinical examination
How Fistula Angioplasty is Performed
Access & Imaging
A small catheter is inserted into the fistula and contrast dye is used to locate the narrowed segments.
Balloon Dilatation
A balloon-tipped catheter is inflated at the site of stenosis to widen the narrowed vessel and restore flow.
Minimally Invasive
Performed under local anesthesia as a day-care procedure with minimal discomfort and quick recovery.
Improved Fistula Function
Restores and maintains proper blood flow for efficient dialysis sessions.
